BASKETBALL TOURNEY

CONVENT TEAMS AT PLAY. The Hawera Convent recreation ground was the scene of enjoyment and keen rivalry on Wednesday afternoon whilst the three basketball matches were in progress. The first match between Kaponga Convent- Old Girls and Hawera Convent Secondary School resulted in a win for the home team, 18—G. The next match was exciting from the outset when Inglewood Convent Primary team played Hawera Convent Primary. The contestants were evenly matched, hut the home team again proved victorious, 9—7. Sparkling, scientific play was displayed throughout- the third match, when Inglewood Convent Old Girls met a combination of four Kaponga- Old Girls and five Hawera Convent Secondary girls. Half-time scores were Ka-ponga-Hawern 8. Inglewood 7: and final scores in favour of Inglewood 12—1] .

The visiting teams were entertained at St. Joseph’s Hall, where they enjoyed a dainty afternoon tea. Speeches were delivered by the five respective captains, and the happy parties set out for home about- 5.30 p.m.
