BOXING AT HAWERA

JARVIS TO MEET GORDON. MONDAY NIGHT’S CONTEST. Ail outstanding contest is in store for boxing enthusiasts on Monday night, when at the Hawera Boxing Association’s tourney Jarvis, of Eltham, and C. Gordon, of P'atea, will provide five rounds. Jarvis has a formidable, record and lias won a number of his fights by the short route, but in this ca.se he will be up against a boxer who is exceptionally clever, both with his hands and his feet. Gordon lias r.efeated Godfrey Thomas and the latter has two decisions over Jarvis. However, the Jarvis who fought Tho has and was beaten is not the Jarvis who is in the ring to-day. He is a vastly improved fighter, and has developed a speed and aggressiveness which should carry him a long way in the fight game. Gordon knows the ability of Jarvis, and lias the ability to keep away from that dreaded right jab, and the two ■should present an interesting study, in addition to providing an excellent contest. The two have never met in the ring and have reserved this battle for the Hawera Association for some months.

In addition to ths bout, amateurs from Wanganui and Palmerston North are making the trip to Hawera. and a number of bouts will be staged of a very high order. The tourney will be hold in the Hawera gymnasium, Princes Street.
