FARMERS AND EXCHANGE

DAIRY COMPANY’S RESOLUTION. BONUS OF £40,000 AVAILABLE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.J FEILDING, Aug. 15. Realising the practical benefits of the present exchange rate on London, the annual meeting of shareholders of tlie Cheltenham Dairy Company by a reso_ lution expressed appreciation of the action of the Government and gratification at the recent announcement that the present rates would remain unaltered for the present. ;Mr C. G. C. Dernier, the chairman, referring to the appointment of the Dairy Commission, said farmers were wholly opposed to a quota on exports. The commission might do valuable work in reorganising the dairy industry. Mr Dernier pointed out that there were 19 factories between Rangitikei and Otaki, whereas three or four could handle the whole output for the area. The dairy farmer had to pay for the overlapping. Regarding quota restrictions he said he‘thought the threat to the pork industry most serious. He hoped sonic arrangement would eventuate by which there was no restriction on pork exports. The company lias nearly £40,000 bonus for distribution. One small supplier suggested £IOOO be given to tlie Feilding relief fund, saying the dairyman had extracted money through the high exchange rate from the people. His suggestion was received with laughter.
