DEFEAT OF CHAIRMAN
WELLINGTON EDUCATION BOARD HELD OFFICE FOR 16 YEARS. fHy Telegraph —Press Association.) WELLINGTON Aug. 15.. Mr W. B. Dyer was elected chairman of the Wellington Education Board, defeating the other nominee, Mr J. J. Clark, by eight votes to five. A 'resolution was passed appreciative of the services of the former chairman, Mr T. Forsyth, who was not reelected to the board, and an enlarged photograph of Mr Forsyth is to be obtained for the board room. The suggested reason for Mr Forsyth’s defeat at the poll was the uncompromising attitude he took up in regard to Sunday tennis, thereby antagonising some city senool committees. He was a member for 18 years and chairman for the past 16 years. When the question of the board’s representatives on the Technical College governors came up it was decided to appoint Messrs dark and Forsyth. A member raised an objection against the appointment of Mr Forsyth on the grounds that the board should not go outside its own ranks in making appointments to bodies on ■which it had representation, hut a majority took the view that the board should appoint the best men, whether they were members of the board or not.
