KIDNAPPING CASE SEQUEL ALLEGATIONS IN ILLINOIS (United Press Asst elation—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) 'CHICAGO, April 28. A sensation was caused by the arrest and holding under 100>000 dollars bail of John McLaughlin, a well-known figure in Democratic politics in Illinois and a former member of the iState legislative in connection with the kidnapping of Mr Edward Bremer, a wealthy .banker and brewer, on January 18. At the same time McLaughlin’s 17-year-old son was also taken into custody. The finding, by (Federal authorities of several thousand dollars of Mr Bremer’s ransom money on an underworld figure who was trapped by Federal operatives is said to have led to the apprehension of McLaughlin.

Mr Edward Bremer, aged 36, banker and member of a wealthy family controlling large brewing interests, who was held for £40,000 ransom, was freed on February 8 after the payment of £4OOO. Mr Bremer was beaten during bis captivity and his eyes were taped for 22 days. A doctor described his head injuries as serious. Six or seven men are sought as the kidnappers, including three who pushed Mr Bremer from a sedan car in the residential district of [Rochester, Minnesota, late last night. The victim’s relatives kept a bargain with the kidnappers to picserve secrecy until Mr Bremer was returned.'
