CALCUTTA, April 27. The Bombay cotton -mill strike is spreading. Only 15 -mills are working of 51. Prominent citizens are petitioning the Mayor to call a meeting of the employers of labour in an endeavour to reach a settlement. Riotous scenes have developed at Bombay. Police were stoned and five were seriously injured. The position is most threatening. The Government is blamed for allowing the situation to develop as it •is upsetting the whole city and causing a setback to trade. There are now over 85,000 operatives idle.- -Several- mills' are picketed-and loval workers have been attacked.
