WHAKAMARA
OO'NOERT AT SCHOOL. (From Qur Own Correspondent). On Tuesday afternoon a concert was given by the Whakamara school children to raise funds for the Boys and Girls’ Club. The items were much appreciated by the teachers.' and parents, particularly as the work was all done by the children themselves. The programme was as follows: “God Save the King,” by all; pianoforte solo, Eva Gulliver; recitation, “New Shoes,” Gwenda Potter; song, ‘ ‘Old English Home,” all; recitation, “The Voyage,” Jack Dobson; song, “Up to the Ceiling,” Primers; recitation, “A Greeting,” 'Ft. Dobson; story, “The Little Lead Soldier,” Eva Gulliver; duet, “Paul Steeple,” N. and B. Kelly; recitation, “Little Red Lark,” Roslyn Scott; songs, “I Love to Roam in the Morning” and “The Lost Sheep in the Mountain,” senior girls; recitation, “Bold Jack Donahue,” C. Buekrell. In a play, “The Witch,” the parts were taken as follow, Roslyn Scott, “The Witch”l Mabel Courtney, “A Mortal”; Primers, “The Fairies.” A Maori item was also given by the senior girls. Afternoon tea was served, after which numerous competitions were judged and small prizes awarded. The results were: Best hand made purse, Phyllis Buekrell 1, Roslyn Scott 2; weight guessing, Mis,s Hopper and J. Potter equal; heaviest apple. Albert Le Fleming 1, J. and M. Langley, equal, 2; heaviest potato, S'adie Caldwell and Marshall Langley, equal; best- shaped carrot, Gwenda Potter 1, J. Langley 2; longest bean, Jean Langley 1, Marshall Langley 2; most points in vegetable class, Jean IJangPERSONIAL. Mr N. Barkla Is an Inmate of the Hawera Hospital. The fortnightly series of euchre socials will begin on Friday.
