We all like to admire and commend the fervour of youth, but it is obvious that the facility comes with years of practice, the knowledge of experiments tried and found successful or wanting in pre-war years of inestimable value. The trouble is that rather too often the. old are too strongly entrenched in their positions of security to give a chance to raw youth. Physique, experience, the wisdom that comes with years' —are these not assets of overwhelming importance in the battle of life? What, indeed, has youth that old age lacks? Generally speaking, enthusiasm, adaptability, willingness to serve. Let old age add these to its other qualifications and it will be irresistible. Enthusiasm! This then is an appeal to people past the prime not to lose the vital spark of hope, ambition, belief in the possibilities of life. One admits the tremendous temptation to slacken off, to lose faith, ito let cynical pessimism have its own way. But enthusiasm can be cultivated by the old, as well as by the young. _ Old people, remember your responsibilities! Youth looks up to you for guidance, inspiration. Have the lessons of life all been so negative? Has not experience something good to say on the art of living? Youth asks, respectfully but urgently, that old age should give a lead.
