KAPONGA WAR MEMORIAL

GATES AT MEMORIAL PARK.

NAMES OF MEN WHO FELL.

The Kaponga Domain Board has recently constructed a new entrance to Victoria Park. The work consists of concrete pillars, side-walls suitably panelled with boulder stone, and ticketbox. Two iron gates form the main entrance and a turnstile of similar design to the gates provides access for pedestrians. Between the main gate and the turnstile a large pillar has been constructed and provision has been made for a granite slab to be built in, on which it is intended to include a list of the names of the men who enlisted from Kaponga and district and lose their lives in the Great War, 1914If.lß. The intention of the board to make the new entrance to the park a memorial to the men who made the supreme sacrifice in defence of their country has the approval of residents in the ■district and the board is indebted to many for assistance in compiling the list of names for inclusion on the slab.
