SCHOOL COMMITTEE. (From Our Own Correspondent). The monthly meeting of the Opunake District High School Committee was held on Thursday night. I here were present Messrs. S. Boyd (chairman), L. Brown, H. Rikihana, D. Richards, AT. Sharrock (secretary) ana W. H. Burgess (headmaster). Apologies for absence were received from Mi*. J. Johnston and Mr Gilshnan. Mir Burgess, reporting on the previous' month’s activities, stated that Mi E. G. Caigou was to leave the school at the erid of the year and his place was to be filled by Mr Herdman, M.A. The proficiency examinations were recently conducted and twelve pupils were successful. *. Notice was received that the school holidays would commence on December 20 and terminate on February 5. A letter is to be forwarded to Mr E. Caigou expressing appreciation of his services as a high school master. BEACH DRESS BALL. The dancing space in the Town Hal. was taxed to its utmost capacity on' Wednesday night for the novelty beach dress ball, organised by the newly-formed Cpunake Seaside Im provement Society. Visitors were pres ent. from as far as New Plymouth in the north and Hawera in the south The attractive costumes worn lielpec to lend- a gay appearance to the scene. Several dancers were in beach pyjamas The hall was beautifully decorator with gold, orange, lemon and blue streamers. Several sunshades wert‘ suspended from the ceiling and a strong light helped to show up the colours. Other bright lamps radiated abovo thd streamers. The stage wa? draped in bunting and flowers Music/ was supplied by Malcolm’s Star Orchestra and Mr‘C. Maindonald carried out' the duties of M.C.. The buffet Stopper was supervised by a commit tee of ladies, headed by Mrs R. S Jenkin. The decorations had been well carried out under the supervision of Mrs E Jenkin. Several bright ballets were performed by Miss Elwyn Riley and pupils of New Plymouth.
