KINGSTON TO QUEENSTOWN
ROAD COMPLETION SOUGHT. SOUTHLAND PROGRESS LEAGUE. -ip IM,. *i-i|iii 1-k-bs A ra*'em t rou.l INVERCARGILL, Dec. 1. That work on the Kingston-Queens-town road should be recommenced at an early date was the opinion of a conference of the Southland Progressive League and local bodies held to-day. It was stated that the Government through the Transport Board could limit the vehicles using the new road to those engaged in passenger traffic. That would allay fears that the railway service would be doomed were tbo road completed. The conference also passed a remiturging that every endeavour should be made to -bring about reinstatement of the Bluff-Melbourne passenger service at the earliest date. It was contended that reinstatement of this service was most essential in Southland’s interests, more so as the Melbourne centenary would be held next year.
