Reports are current that E. B. Ryckman, Canadian Minister of Rlevenue, is resigning through ill health, says an Ottawa cable. The death of Mr Oswald Prince, manager of the Gisborne Gas Company, is reported in a Press Association message from Gisborne. He was associated with various sporting bodies. A tribute to the work of the late Mr. J. V. Wyborn for the South Taranaki Winter Show is paid in the annual report to shareholders. Mr Wyborn was on the directorate from 1910 to 1920 and during those years rendered excellent service to the show. Mr M. A. Reid, for the past 12. months a member of the staff of the Hawera railway station, left this morning on transfer to 'Tdumarumii, M's place being taken by Mr G. Beaven, of New. Plymouth, a wellknown swimmer fn that town. The resignation of. Mr J. A. Pettigrew, for many years representative of the Egmont County Council on the Opunake Harbour Board, was accepted with regret at the board’s monthly meeting held in Opunak© last evening. It was mentioned that Mr Pettigrew was chairman for a year prior to the (flection of the present chairman (Mr J; »S. Hickey) and members expressed their admiration of his faithful attendance at meetings and his attention to the business of the board. Any committee work entrusted to him had always been given careful thought. He recognised the need for the harbour and put his very best into it while a member and chairman. The board placed on record its appreciation of Mr Pettigrew’s services, and it was decided to notify the Egmont County Council of the resignation so that a member could be appointed to fill the vacancy. Representatives of legal firms throughout South Taranaki assembled at the Carlton tearooms in Hawera yesterday afternoon for a farewell tea to Mr R. C. Rutherford, of Patea. After a stay of several years in Hawera and 11 years spent in Patea Mr Rutherford is returning to Dunedin, his home town, to commence practice 1 there. Mr. F. W Hamel, of Patea, president of the South Taranaki Law Society, occupied the chair and spoke of his regret at losing his partner and cordially wished him the best that the future could hold. Mr. G. J. Bayley, representing the Hawera practitioners, also spoke in similar terms of regret and good wishes and he was followed by Mr. J. Hessell (Kaponga), Mr. A. Crystal (Eltham) and Mr. J. Foy and Mr John Houstoat (Hawera). Mr. A. G. Bennett (Manaia) sent an apology for his absence In responding Mr Rutherford paid a tribute to his former employers, Messrs Welsh, McCarthy and Beechey, and expressed his pleasure at being asked to attend the gathering. He said he would carry away the memory of the sentiments expressed and of his residence in both towns.
