Acceptance to membership was granted the West Coast (South Island) Federated Aero Club by the Council of the New Zealand Aero Club today. Constituent clubs of the new area, with the present strengths are: Westport 33. Greymouth 152, Tkaniatuai 23, Hokitika. 47. South Westland 25 ; total 280. The chairman, Mr G. M. Spence, made it clear that the West Coast Federated Club would be the last that would be admitted to membership, the policy of the Defence Department being ito limit the. number of federated clubs to ten. It was originally eight. For geographical reasons a West Coast club was desirable, but now that New Zealand, was coinpletely covered there was no possibility of the department recognising anv other federated clubs. Tli© official pageant for the North Island was allocated to the Hawke’s Bay club and the South Island one is to be offered to the new West Coast club. Dn the ground of ex irons© the meeting decided not to proceed with the scheme to instal a system of shortwave communication between clubs. NEW DEPARTMENT SOUGHT. SUBSIDY INCREASE URGED. WELLINGTON, Dec. 1. The constitution of a separate, department of- civil aviation wais advocated bv a deputation from the Near Zealand Aero Club to the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes and the Defence Minister, Ihe Hon. ,T. G. Cobbo. to-night. The deputation also sought an increase rn tb,e amount of the present subsidy. The Ministers promised consideration.
