New Zealand subscribers drew Shadow King, second horse in the Melbourne Cup, in two consultations drawn at Hobart, Tasmania. In the larger consultation Shadow King was drawn by G. G. Burnside, Green Island, Otago, who as second prize won £3OOO, and in the smaller consultation Shadow King was drawn by Rotten Luck, care C. J. Lower, Symonds Street, Auckland, who as second’ prize won £ISOO. BELIEVED TO BE BUTCHER. DUNEDIN, Nov. 9 Inciuiries show that "G. G. Burnside,”' who has drawn a £3OOO prize in a Melbourne Cup consultation, is be; lieved to be George Gray, for many vears a slaughterman at Burnside; but now at the Makerewa freezing works. Recently he returned to Burnside for a visit, purchasing at that time tickets representing an investment of 24s in a Melbourne Cup sweep. Miy Gray’s sister, Mrs Smellie, states they are almost certain he is the winner'. He held four tickets and used the initials mentioned. He is about 50 years old.
