NEW ZEALAND POPULATION
OVER 1,500,000 ESTIMATED
FIGURES FOR SEPTEMBER

WELLINGTON, Nov. 9,
Population statistics in a gazette show that the estimated population in New Zealand, including Maoris, on September 30 last was 784,081 males and 755,101 females, a total of 1,539,782. The estimated Maori population was 37,452 males and 34,542 females, a total of 72,024, Tho estimated population of the North Island, including Maoris, was 511,190 males and 482,524 females, a total of 993,714, and the estimated population of the South Island, including Maoris, 273.491 males and 272,577 females, a total of 546,008. The estimated population of New Zealand with its dependencies and mandated territory, including Cook Islands, Niue, Tokelau Island and Western Samoa, was 1,605,012. The population showed an increase of 2419 compared with an increase of 2136 during the corresponding quarter of 1932.
