Royal Silk went to the front entering the back, while the remainder maintained their positions over the next half. Passing the stands the last time Red Shadow was in second place behind Royal Silk, with Mountain Dell, Kingcraft, Free Advice, Glenrossie, Sir Guy, Wrackler, Roi L’Or, Lindbergh and Harold Logan next. The leaders were the same along the back the last time and into the straight, but Red Shadow did best in the run home to beat Royal Silk by a length and a-'half, with Mountain Dell two lengths away.
