OPUNAKE TOWN BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING HELD

The monthly meeting of tl*e Opunake Town Board was held on Monday night. There were present Commissioners A. J. Brennan (chairman), J. P. Hughson ,S. Boyd, J. Wilson, M . J. S. Dudley and L. Des Forges. CT Brennan welcomed the new member, Mr Wilson, to the hoard. A cheque for £5 was received from the “Better Times” art union, stating that by direction of the Minister of Internal Affairs it was to be used for relief of distress in the town district. It was resolved to hand the money over to the Bed Cross relief committee. , The secretary of tlfe Opunake Athenaeum wrote asking the board for a donation to its funds. A donation of £3 3s was granted. Several members were of the opinion that the library should be under the jurisdiction of the Town Board and it was decided to form a subcommittee to go into the matter. The following ' were elected as the siibcommittee: The chairman, Mr J. Milson aud Dr Griffin. The foreman (Mr .J. Do Castro) reporting on the month’s activities, stated that water channels' had been cleaned, roads patched where necessary and the town hall cleaned. The pinqs on the. outskirts of the domain facing the Main South Road needed trimming and several pipes were needed near the power, board’s workshop. The foreman was instructed to prepare an estimate of the latter work The ranger reported that four head of cattle had been impounded during the month. . ~ The clerk’s monthlv report was dealt with, in detail. . , He also nresented a statement ot the estimated receipts and expenditure for the year and the amounts received and exoended to date (seven months). Estimated receipts £2 .2*2 (the sum received +o date was £1292 Is 10d>. The expenditure wais estimated at £2.012 and the amount expended to date was C 1.391 Ids 3d.
