A private message from Signor Mussolini to Herr Hitler informed the Nazi leader that Italy had decided' to march troops to Austria if Hen- Hitler made any moye to annex Austria, says the diplomatic "correspondent of the London “Daily Herald.” Herr Goering as a result is making a posthaste flight to Rome to confer with Signor Mussolini. Hen* Goering also received a warning that German aggression was on the verge of embroiling Lta-ly and Jligo-Shivra in war. “Signor Mussolini lias already received from Dr Dollfuss permission to send troops to Austria if the Nazis cross the frontier,” the paper adds. “An Italian army corps has moved nearer the frontier. This lias -set the Little Entente in a ferment. A Jugoslavian army of 180,000 will he mobilised if the Italians cross the Austrian border. “Herr Hitler has now ordered the Legion of ex-Austrian Nazis under German leadership to retire into Bavaria -from the Austrian frontier.”

Captain Goering had a short interview with Scgnor Mussolini in the evening. He will have a. longer conversation to-morrow. It is understood thev will review the whole of the Europlea n situation with a view to solving the- difficulties' due to Germany’s withdrawal frojn the League of Nations ami -the Disarmament Conference.

It is known that Signor Mussolini regards it as useless for the Powers to attempt a disarmament convention in Germany’s absence-. He believes that Germany’s reasons are mainly psychological. Meanwhile he is anxious to recommence conversations with Germany as soon as possible.
