bourne Cup to-day. Never further back than seventh, he headed Shadow King with a great effort, while Caine Carrington and Topical dead-heated for third place. Topical made a deadheat with Gaine Carrington in the last stride. Rogilla was never dangerous and beat only four horses. Hall iV|ark has w on approximately £17,000 in stakes and equalled Trivalve’s feat by winning two Derbies | and the Cup in one season. This was the first Cup win for the owner, Mr Kellow, and the trainer, Holt. The apprentice O’Sullivan has been riding for 18 months and this was his first Cup ride. The winner was given a mixed reception. Delightful weather prevailed and there w a « an enormous attendance, including many New Zealanders. Regal Son was scratched, for the Cup at 11.48. Phocis was prominent always and won the Cup Hurdles comfortably from the former New Zealanders My Talisman and JBayacre, who spoilt their chances by erratic jumping. Phocis was second in this race last year. Any Day finished strongly to win the Railway Highweight Handicap. His owner-trainer, W. Burk, has had a lucky run recently with Whitsome and Wayback. The New Zealand-bred Quarto had a narrow win in the Mimosa Stakes. The favourite Hustle Qn was left at the post and took no part in the race W. It. Kembail’s Berith failed to show up. Wirrate, owned and trained by the former New Zealander, Vin O’Neill, had a runaway win in the Steeples. He was ridden by the apprentice H. Bruton, and was the boy’s first mount at Flemiugton. Favoured with a great run on the rails in the straight Brave Boy captured the first division of the Yan Yean Stakes. Closing Time led early but tired. The winner is trained by the former New Zealander, Maurice McGrath. The New Zealander Ruling Light won his first race in Australia with a brilliant finishing run in the Yan Yean Stakes second division. The results are : CU'P HURDLES. Phocis, 12.2 (Hynes) 1 My Talisman, 10.6 (Fuilarton) 2 Bayaere, 11.0 (A ; McDonald) 3 Si? started. Won by a length and three.-quarters; six lengths. Lady Doris was fpurth. Laniroi fell.
