Nominations which closed at noon on Saturday for the vacancy on the El tli ain Borough Council, caused by the resignation of Or. T. 11. A. Valintine, brought forward only one candidate, Mr. E. C. L. Butler, who was declared elected.
At the weekly meeting of the Hawera Rangers last evening an interesting demonstration on raffia work was. given by Mrs A. E. Stevens, of Hawera. The manufacture of various articles was explained, and it is the Rangers’ intention to make a number of articles for sale in aid of funds. Mrs Stevens consented to supervise their manufacture, which will bo commenced at the Rangers’ next meeting.
