DOMINION PIG INDUSTRY
CO-OPERATIVE! MARKETING ASSOCIATION’S OPERATIONS A visitor to South Taranaki last week was Mr Wendell A. Phillips, of Hamilton, chairman of directors of the New Zealand Co-operative Pig Marketing Association. He lias been touring the district in the interests of the association and lie .stated to a “Hawera Star” representative that ho is very optimistic concerning the future of the industry. He stated that the association waiS' paying out this month a bonus of 1 l-16d on sales and shares.
Mr Phillips stated that at the request of the North Taranaki executive of the Farmers’ Union a representative had been sent to address meetings in that area and, if sufficient .support were guaranteed, the association would operate there.
Referring to the hobby calf business, he said that the total collected in the Auckland province in this, the association’s first year, was 160,000 and this was considered very satisfactory. In South Taranaki arrangements have been made to receive pigs of all kinds at Haver a; on Mondays and at Kapuni on Wednesdays. Mr J. F. Crawford, of Glover Road, is the local agent.
