WAGE CUTS AND TARIFFS

SUGGESTION CBll TICISED OPINIONS OF COMMISSION (Bv ToF’grnph Prpss Association.) WELLINGTON, Nov. G. Criticism of part of the final statement presented to the Tariff Commission to-day by Air A. E. Mander, secretary of the Manufacturers! Federation, was made by members of the commission in referring to a statement that if it was intended to compel manufacturers to further reduce wages this should be declared openly by the commission or the Government instead of being forced by a tariff reduction. Members took exception to this, declaring that the business of the commission was not concerned with wages rates. Air Gow resented reflections on the Government being placed before the commission and assumptions that the Government might harbour an intention to compel the manufacturers to make further wages cuts.
