The general manager of railways (Mi G. H. Mackley) has advised the South Taranaki executive of the Farmers’ Union that the question of improving the state of the Tawhiti crossing is still under consideration and that ceitain safetv measures are being ex amined. A colonist of New Zealand for nearly fift years, Mr Francis James. Moloney, of Union Street, Hawera died yesterday at the age of 74 years. He had been ailing a long time, but was seriously ill for only a short period Mr Moloney was born in Geelong, Vic toria, and went to Dunedin in 1884 and was engaged in the building trade for many years, leaving that city thirteen years ago to settle in Hawera. He had been interested in music all his life and was a proficient instrumentalist. hut his great hobby was the making of violins. To this work he elevated a lot of time and thought and in it be achieved much success. Some years ago he was for a considerable time an active member of the Hawera Orchestral Society. He had also play ed at times with the Savage Club Orchestra, and his help was always: much valued. He was also a composer and during the war he composed two patriotic songs. Ho is survived by bis widow and family of three, one daughter, Mrs E. Hardy of Hawera. I and two sons, Messrs George, of Ha wera-. anti James.' who lives in tin South Island. The funeral will leave his late resident, Union Street, tomorrow (Tuesday) at 2 p.m. for the Hawera cemetery.
