PROTEST AT GISBORNE. DEMONSTRATION PLANNED. (3y Telegraph—Press Association.) GISBORNE, Nov. 4. Indignation has been aroused among unemployed by the latest official intimation regarding the district allocation which will necessitate an all-round reduction in the relief scale amounting to nearly on : e-third for one class. When advised of the new scale tb-dav a big group of unemployed waited on the Mayor, who explained that the local relief committee had already protested against the latest cut and now awaited Parliament’s reply. The deputation pointed out that earnings from relief work will not furnish sustenance for families next week and the Mayor arranged for an appeal to the hospital board. On Monday a mass demonstration is being organised.
