MADRID, Nov. 3. Juan March, Spain’s tobacco king, who is very wealthy, has been in gaol at Alcala de Henares for 18 months, awaiting trial on a charge of obtaining a Moroccan tobacco monopoly by bribery during the monarchist regime. March continued to conduct liis huge business from an office in the prison. He had his own chef to cook his meals Warders to-day discovered that March had escaped. Two warders were arrested for allegedly permitting the escape. The commission has thus far failed to substantiate the charges against March. News of the escape caused a sensation in Madrid, and the Premier immediately announced that severe measures would be taken against those directly and indirectly responsible for the escape.
