A meeting of the committee appointed to control the tug-of-wa,r competitions next - Wednesday evening at the Egmont jubilee show was held last evening, when Mr J. W. Harding occupied the chair. It was decided to adopt the usual procedure in competitions of this nature and accept entries up to 7 o’clock on the evening of Wednesday, November 8. Teams will consist of five men with a maximum weight, of 60 stone. The competition will lie -run on the twolife system, which will ensure a full evening’s programme. In order to vary the programme an attractive list of sports will be sandwiched between the pulls, the events including 100, 220, 440 and 880 yards men’s handicaps, secondary school boys’ race, ladies’ 100 and 440 yards relay, one mile and three mile cycle handicaps and high jump. As a novelty item a ladies’ tug-o-war will also he provided. This will be post entry. The following officials were appointed : Referee, Mr H. D. Hughes (Norrnanby) ; judge, Mr John Russell (Manaia) ; starter, Mr A. H. Russell (E - tham) ; time-keeper, Mr F. C. Foden ; call steward. Mr C. Dahl; Tope stewards, Mr W. Harding. In the event of a protest against the weight of any team, such team may be required to re-weigli immediately after the pull. Owing to the length of the programme it was decided to postpone, the school boys’ tug-of-war until Friday night at the fireworks display, the maximum weight of each team of five to he 33 stone.
