ALL HALLOWE’EN

HAWERA SCOTTISH SOCIETY The Foresters’ Hall was a -scene of gaiety last night when, to celebrate the Feast of Hallowe’en, the' members of the Hawera -Scottish Society gave a night- for children and a happy band of tw-o hundred children enjoyed games, folk dances and a general romp. A ' bounteous supper was served and afterwards a queue was formed to an icecream stall and apples, nuts and sw-eets were also distributed. A few dances concluded the children’s programme. The committee of the society, led by the Chief (Mr D'. G. Smart) and Messrs W. Marr and L. A. Taylor, were responsible for the direction of the party. Towards the end the Mayor (Mr J. E. Campbell) joined the party and took part in the revel, which concluded in an impromptu haka. ‘ A very interesting programme was given in the early part of the evening, arranged bv Mr Taylor. The items were as follow: Piano solos, Myra Pickering, Hartley Gannawa-y and Joan Webber; recitations, Helen Westwood, Norma Seown and Jean Sargent: Soho'S, Lilias Smith, Bunny Glen and Don”McCormick; vocal duet, Margaret Simpson and Stuart Nairn; dance, Margaret Taylor; dialogue, Jean, Margaret and Douglas Stevenson. The accompaniments were played by Airs L. At. Taylor.

The supper arrangements were in the hands of a. committee led by Mrs j. Nairn. The decoration of the tables was done by Mrs ’Webber and streamei s hung by Miss Nairn.
