OUTLOOK CONSIDERABLY BRIGHTER • ADVANCE IN WOOL AND MEAT tßy Telegrapn—Pres* Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 3. Quiet optimism regarding; the signs of business recovery was expressed by Mr Forbes in an interview on his arrival from Wellington, this morning. “The signs all round us are very encouraging, and there seems to be a general improvement,” he said. “Our wool and meat prices are showing advances and are going to make the position throughout New Zealand much easier. It is a far more hopeful outlook than for some time, and a good deal of work that, hais been held up for the past two or three years is now being undertaken. The people are more confident and are prepared to tackle jobs which,.they had left over.”. * Mr Forbes said it was not possible to do anything along the lines of taxation reductions this year. That was one of the things the Government was very anxious to do as .soon as there was sufficient indication that it would be justified ini taking such, steps, but it had not yet reached that position. I Referring to the taxation reductions in Australia, he remarked that it should not be overlooked that Australia felt the depression before New Zealand and had imposed very heavy taxation at the time. Even with the reductions made there the taxation was still heavier than in this country..
