“FOR THE LOVE OF MIKE”
A rollicking affair of love, larceny and laughter, with the whimsical little Boirby Howes heading an outstanding cast “For the Love of Mike,” adapted from the great play-hit of the same name and directed by that mercurial comedy-monger Monty Banks screens nally 'to-night at the Hawera Opera House. It tells the story of Bob Seymour, who, “for the love of Mike laughs at locksmiths and attempts to burgle a safe. A rugger scrum to music which develops into a complicated Apache dance between Bob, Paton, the policeman and the gardener for possession of the vase ensues and will leave filmgoers as exhausted with laughter a,s- the participants in the struggle are from fatigue. , Arthur Riscoe, as the inquiry agent-, makes a notable and comic screen debut and Constance Shottor a charming film discovery, appears as ’Mike. The cleverly interixfiated musical numbers, which include the popular “Sing. Brothers, Sing, num- - or are one of the chief highlights o* the film. Also showing is an excellent supporting programme. Reserves are at the Opera House confectionery.
“MELODY CRUISE” The box plans indicate that the Opera House will be filled to capacity to-mor-row evening when the R.K.O. musical comedy success “Melody Cruise will be presented. “INFERNAL. MACHINE” Chester Morris and Genevieve Tobin are the featured leads in the Grand Theatre’s next release, the “Infernal Machine,” a Fox comedy romance which opens to-morrow night. Marcel Varnel directed from the novel by Carl Slobodn. The support cast includes the brilliant Victor Jory, latest Fox studio find. Elizabeth Patterson. Arthur Hohl and R bcv-t Littlefield. The second big attraction on the programme will he “Tivi to Paradise.” featuring an allstar British comedy cast. Chapter 4 of “Heroes of the West w ill also he i>resented.
