METHODIST MAORI MISSION
CONCERT AT HAWERA
MUSIC BY VISITING TROUPE,
Polynesian .music, song and oratory were features of an outstanding performance given by the Methodist Maori mission party at -the Methodist Hall in Hawera on Tuesday evening in aid of mission funds. Poi dances, liaka-s, stone age games, and choruses, instrumental music and waiatas were given by members of the party, who appeared on the stage in appropriate native costume. A double quartette number, in which the volume was said to equal that- of a large choir, was greatly appreciated by the audience. Among the performers were Raihi Pihama (Raglan), R-ipika Karemaina (King Country), Rangi Tawhai (North Auckland), Miri Tikao (Banks -Peninsula), Pihama (Waikato), Ripenc Matoe (Okaiawa), Tama-te Tepualia (Patea). Holiipa Tutawhia (Southland) and Sister Ropata, troupe organiser (Canterbury). The party arrived in Haw-era on Saturday and' individual members were billeted with members of the Hawera congregation. Both morning and evening services in the church on Sunday were song .services, conducted by the Maoris, and after the concert they journeyed south yesterday.
