Mr. L. O. Hooker, who has been confined to his liomei for a week with an attack of influenza, is now progressing favourably.

A resident of the Hawera and Norinanby districts for the past thirty-five years, Mr John Norfolk, of Normanby, passed away early this morning after a long illness. He had been ailing for a couple of years and for over a month had been confined to his home. Mr Norfolk was born at Grimsby, Yorkshire, 58 years ago and, as a young man, came to New Zealand, settling first at Toko. After some years there he came to Hawera, where he was married and lived for five years. He had a coaching service between this town and Normanby and then set up a carrying business, which, 'with his sons, he conducted until his last illness. He is survived by his widow, who is a sister of Mr P. Petersen, of Hawera, three daughters (Mrs Hoy Hayward and Misses Lucy and Ethel, all of Normanby) and three sons (James, Hawera, and Robert and John, Normanby). He has one brother, Harry, living in New Plymouth. The funeral will take place to-morrow (Friday), ar, 2.30 p.m., at the Waihi Cemetery.
