GOLF COURSE STEAM VENT BEDROOM SUBSIDENCE (By Telegraph—Press Association.;' ROTORIUA, Oet. 31. There can be no, doubt that Rotorua can provide rare novelty in its - daily happenings. The appearance of a steam vent in the fairway of the golf course ana the subsidence of a bedstead over a “warm spot” are a couple of illustrations of. what has occurred recently. No serious consequences Were Attached to either happening, and they are accepted quite as a matter of course, but they must appear strange to those not accustomed to daily contact with, thermal activity. The vent on the golf course came gradually. •At first a patch, of tuff went brown, and the grass grub was suspected. However, later • developments .showed that he was innocent, and that increasing heat w'as the cause. The greenkeepers got to work and sunk in a couple of drain pipes, and they now steam away peacefully vide another novel attraction for the famous Ariki-kapakapa course. Tlie subsidence of. the bedstead, occurred in ai cottage on the King George V. Hospital grounds. One of the staff was suddenly jerked out of his sleep early one morning by the corner of his bed going down, and he found that a sinall steam jet beiiCatli the floor had rotted the boards and let the leg of his bed through. However, that is all in the day’s march here. -
