The weather was fine but with a cold wind for training work this mornnig. Rain overnight left the outside of the course proper in good order, but the times with few exceptions were not fast. I Berate and Liege Lord ran seven furlongs in 1.31. Cricket Bat ran a mile alone in 1.404-s—a smart performance. After going very fast early, Cleaner took 1.38 for an easy seven-furlong task. Fracas ran half a mile , in 53see. Rational II and Ringing Cheer ran six furlongs in i. 19 Sllkspx ran a mile and a quarter in 2.11, High Rank joining for the last mile in 1.441-5. Red Manfred ran a mile in 1.42 3-5, the last half in 503-5. Giiaraiitee, with Red Dance over the last lirilf-milte, ran seven furlongs in 1.291-5. Silent Flight, Horn’s Reef and Pin Money ran a mile brilliantly in 481-5 sec. Copyist ran a mile in 1.46 2-5. Control and Custodian ran half a inile along the back in 52sec. Croupier beat Hurlinghain over five furlongs in 1.2. Heather Glow beat Falkland easily over a mile. Tout le Monde and Rocket were on terms to beat Night .Flyer by three lengths over a mile and a quarter in 2.14 3-5. The pace was slow early, the last mile taking 1.-17 and the last half 5.3-sec. Bright Shade with Red Arrow ran the last part of a mile in 1.47. Monastic was brought home by Ruling Pen over seven furlongs in 1.311-5. Ramon and Glandovey ran half a mile in 52seo. Passion Fruit and emotion ran six furlongs in 1.18 4-5. Errantry and Master Reynard ran half a mile in 502-ssec. Marcus Cicero and Invoice failed to' go away together from the half-mile j peg, the former doing 52 3-ssec and) the latter 51. Bright Red and St. Joan rail live| furlongs in 1.3 4-5. . Rniiolagh beat Brainbletoru over a mile in 1.47, after doing the half-mile in 52sec. Metal Bird beat Alamtiri over six furlongs in 1.21 2-5. Great Star, who has been on tile easy list, ran seven furlongs with Double Shot in 1.3-1. Manetlio rail half a miie easily in 51 3-ssee. Sweet Agues and Tea Garden fan seven furlongs comfortably in I.no 1-5. Sam Smith, with Arrow Rose over the last half-mile, ran six furlongs in 1.20. I Southdown ran a mile in 1.451-5, Water Polo joining in over the last five furlongs. Haere Tonu and Variant ran half a mile along tho hack in 52sec. True Shaft and Nightguard ran half a mile in 52 2-ssec. Some Shambles and Niggerhend ran six furlongs in 1.20, Riri taking the same time alone. Lordly Knight ran five furlongs smartly in 1.2 1-5 Night Recital and Eiipator ran six furlongs in 1.19 3-5. Ladv Zeplivr ran six furlongs easily in 1.22. Kerbside, with the assistance of Prince Warden, ran half a mile in 50 4-5. Spoon ran a mile in 1.45 3-5. Royal Amphora ran half a mile very easily in 55sec. Importance was brought home by a firslj-class filly over ;six furlongs in 1.19 4-5. Silly Owl ran half a mile in 50 3-sse_c. Drumfire beat Cranford over six furlongs in 1.171-5. Gaysome ran half a mile along the back in 49 4-ssec. Don Jose jumped five hurdles very well. GALLOPS AT AUCKLAND. CUP HORSES IN FORM AUCKLAND', Oct. 31. The weather was fine and the going first-elaiss for training at Ellerslie this morning, and there was more galloping than usual. The course proper with the poles 35 feet out from the rails was available, and the .'bulk of the fast work was done on tins. Whemiakiivrai was first out, being sent half a mile. He covered the first furlong in 11 4-sscc, and completed the task in 50'sec, running on solidly. The Mitchelson Cup candidates lied Sun, Carfox and Lord Val were associated over a round, running the distance in 2.4 3-5. They covered the last -seven furlongs in 1.33 4-5, find the final half-mile in 54sec. The firstnamed pair were together at the finish, with Lord Val about five lengths away. Red Sun, who had the -outside running, and was wide out -going out of the straight, was staying on ait the end, though lie was being kept up to bis work. Carfox also worked better than usual, his effort being most satisfactory.
Karangapni finished in front of Prince Colossus at the end of five furlongs, mii in 1.4 2-5, the first two taking 25seo. My Money and Royal Appellant ran half a mile, tiie former finishing in front in ot-’Sec. One of the best efforts of the morning was registered by King Mitsk, who had Alpines as a companion over seven furlongs. Ho van the first- three furlongs iit 37 l-ssee. four in 50sor-;. and the full distance in 1.32 3-5. King Musk was in front at the finish nml was going much hotter than his companion. After 'Winning his first full one; in 12 sec. Iviltowyn registered 50 2-ssec for half a mile and could, have done better. Baroscope, who looks much improved as a result of his recent racing, .strode over seven furlongs in. 1.44 4-5. He is to -run in the Mitchelson Cup and wiil be ridden by E. Mattson.
Chief Cook, United and Echo Song wept away from the five furlong post and after running their first furlong in 24 3-sseo, came home in 1.3 2-5. This was a. good effort, and- Chief Oo.ok, who was being kicked up at the finish, was a shade in front.
OVER, THE FENCES. 'Grant’s Opal gave a safe display over the -steeplechase fences. Zane Grey, Kairuri and Baniba started off over a round of steeplechase fences. Commencing at the .sod wall they negotiated the fences on the flat, Bamba then dropping out and the other pair continuing on over the hill. They finished by again jumping the fences on the flat. They both went well, though Kairuri was inclined to he a hit careful.
The arrivals this morning included View Halloo, Porotiti, Mother Superior, Spiral, Pomp, Count LeiidrofF, All Humbug and Coachman. Master Brierly, who lias been racing at Sydney during the laist few months, returned in charge of R. S. B-agby yesterday and he was out exercising this morning. TRIALS AT TAKANTNI The fast work at Takanini this morning was carried out on the inside grass track. The -going was excellent. Gallant Knight was first out and ’completed half a mile in 51 3-ssec. Greek Gold was a neck in front of Exaggeration at the end of six furlongs in 1.16 1-5, the first three taking 37sec. Tatyoon was three lengths clear of Arch Ruler, with Thespis half a length further hack, over five furlongs in 1.3 3-0. Nun Nicer beat Nicodemus over four furlongs in 51 3-ssec-, and Cherry King completed his work by running tile last three furlongs in 38 4-ssec. Gold Pocket ljea-t Expectancy by half a length over six furlongs, the last five taking 1.4 4-5. Speedmiiit and King March were sent a mile, with Tavern Knight to assist them over the last seven furlongs. Tho full distance took 1.45 1-5, and the last half-mile 55 l-ssec. Tavern Knight, who was just in front of Speedmint, with King March a neck away, ran the last seven in 1.31.
The best effort of the morning was registered by Gay Sheila, who beat Gay Marigold by a neck at the end of five furlongs in 1.2 1-5. Gay Sheila, worked attractively and could have bettered lier time. W. H. Jarvis arrived at Takanini from Sydney yesterday with Ammon Rla and is quartered at J. L. Gray’s stable. Solomon has been scratched for the Great Northern Guinea's, Superior and Day Wind for the Welcome Stakes, and Rofreslior for the Shorts Handicap, to be run at Ellerslie next Saturday. G. DUNCAN’S APPEAL. WANGANUI, Oct. 31. The appeal of the apprentice G. Duncan against suspension for one month imposed at the Wavorley race meeting was heard this afternoon by the Wanganui District Committee, which confirmed. the finding of the Wavorley .judicial committee hut decided to reduce the sentence to 14 days as from October 24. At the same time it severely reprimanded Duncan, -who will miss the Auckland spring meeting’s riding. AUCKLAND SCRATCHINGS. AUCKLAND, Oct. 31.
