Despite a high treacherous wind thei Australian, John Cobb, driving a monster Napier-Railton car at Brooklands,lowered the world’s records standing: start for a kilometer, averaging 88.14= miles an hour and standing start for the mile, averaging 102.52 miles an hour.
At the end of a mile Oobb was travelling at nearly 150 miles an hour, which was dangerously close to the Brookland track safety limit. His last gear change was made at 100 miles an hour.
