KING’S POLICE MEDAL

AWARD FOR GALLANTRY. TERRORISM IN INDIA. (United Piess A ssociation —By Electric Telegraph Jopyrighw) CALCUTTA, Oct. 29. The British police officers P. Jones and O. Smith have been awarded the King’s police medal for conspicuous gallantry on the occasion of a terrorists’ outrage at Midnapore on September 2, when a magistrate, Mr B. E. J. Burge, was murdered. Stepping from a car in football dress to take part in a match for the Midnapore Club against a Mohammedan team, Mr Burge was shot dead within sight’ of his wife by a fusillade of bullets. The shots were fired by a party of Bengalis on the touchline. Police officials opened fire and one terrorist was shot dead, another being seriously wounded. A third was arrested. One of the wounded, suspects died in the afternoon. _ Twenty-five arrests were made during a round-up.
