WELCOME HOME SOCIAL.

At the Auroa Hall on Wednesday evening a large number of guests assembled to welcome home, Mr and Mrs Jas.’ Freyne from their honeymoon. Mr Schweiters presided over the gathering and before proposing the loyal toast referred to. the high esteem in which Mr Frey he is hfeld, making special mention of ins. social activities.
Upon entering the hall accompanied by Mrs Cave and the Misses’ King, Mi’ii -vne was accorded a rousing welcome. The toast of the “Bride and Bridegroom” was proposed by Mr Cave and was received with musical honours. Tlje toast of “The Bride’s Parents” was proposed by Mr A. Freyne and responded to by Mr J. Freyne and that to “The Bridegroom’s Parents” was proposed bv Mr S. Thrush and responded to bv Mr J. Lavery. Other toasts were; “Married men.’’ Mr Ron James and Mr E. Sandford; “Single Men,” Mr T. Slieerin and Mr W. Mercer; “Auroa’ Sports Clubs;” Mr B. Cameron and Mr B. Sandford; ‘’“The Guests.” Mr J. Frevne and Mr Kilpatrick: “The Ladies,” Mr J. McCarty and Mr Colin Fergus. A haka of welcome to the bride and bridegroom was given by the local Maoris.. Vocal, elocutionary and instrumental items were given bv Messrs S. Wilks. J. Hooker. J. McCarty, J. Mackay and Eli Te Kiri with Maori choirs.

BIRTHDAY PARTY
'On isaturoay. Mrs. Greenbacks gave a very pleasant afternoon to celebrate the birthday of Miss Kathleen Greenbanks. The table was laden with cakes and sweets of all kinds, while a large birthday cake made by Mrs. Greeiibanks and . decorated held pride of place. A large : number of useful gifts were received. Among those present were Mesdames Ord, Hodges, Greenbanks, Miason and Wheeler, and Misses Kathleen Greenbariks, Joyce Hodges, Hi lee n and Pat Mis chef ski, It ay Ord, T. Haworth, GV McLean, AT Mischefski, D. Wheeler, and B. and J Haworth. ■ • Local anglers are having a. fine time catching a numbed" of fine trout. GENERAL. ' Twenty-five' new books by popular writers have just been added to the Auroa public library, • Miss Maureen Burke, who has even visiting Mns 1 S. C. Wilks, has retimed home.
