LEGISLATION EXTENDED The Immigration Restriction Amendment Bill, of which notice AA-as given in the House of Representatives on Tuesday by the Minister of Finance, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, extends for one A’ear the provisions of the Amendment Ac-t of 1931, Avliich expires on December 31, 1933. This Act gives poAver to the Governor-General in Council to prohibit or restrict the entry into New Zealand of any .specified nationality or race or of any specified class or occupation. It provides that no person shall land in New Zealand unless he has a- permit granted by the Minister. • ’ The annual report of the Department of Immigration, which was tabled in the House on’ Tuesday, shows that the number of assisted migrants has fallen from 11,239 in 1926-27 to 56 in 1.932-33, and the number of full-fare migrants from ' 3701 to 570 over the same period-.
