PARK CROQUET CLUB

OPENING OF COURTS. COMPETITION GAMES PLAYED. A large and enthusiastic gathering was present at the official opening of the Hawera Park croquet lawns yesterday afternoon under ideal weather conditions. The course were in perfect order and the beautiful surroundings: .of the lawns were greatly admired by visitors. Mrs A. Murdoch, president of the club, welcomed visitors from various clubs and trusted that members would enjoy a very happy season. Mrs Murdoch asked the Mayoress (Mrs J. E. Campbell) to officially open the courts. Mrs Campbell wished the members a successful season and then made the first hoop;, declaring the green open. The Mayoress- and president were thenpresented with posies made Mrs H-obbs. The following clubs were represented New Plymouth, Inglewood, Eltham, Ivaponga', Okaiawa, Opunake, Ma.naia and Hawera. >

Competitions were played during the afternoon;, the winners being as follow: Ladder—Mrs Watt (Opunake) 1, Mrs Baker (-Okaiawa) 2. Golf—Mrs Bublitz (Inglewoo-d) 1, Mrs Rae (Okaiawa) 2. Drive—Mrs Ashton (Inglewood) 1, Mrs Harding (Park) 2. Hurry 'Scurry—Mrs Chadwick and Mrs Spragg (Park). The' Mayoress presented -the trophies, and on behalf of the visitors thanked the Park Club for a very enjoyable time. Afternoon tea was served by the members and brought a very happy function to a close.
