HORSES IN DEMAND
FARMERS’ CO-OP. FAIR. PRICES UP TO £47 AT HAWERA. A very' healthy tone was shown at the horse fair held bv the Farmers Co-operative Association at Hawera on Saturday and a strong demand was evinced by buyers, prices showing a remarkably good average and one fine heavy' horse realising £47. This was the figure secured by the McLaohian estate of Pihama for an eight-year-old gelding, Mr E. A. Bosson, of Matapu, being the purchaser. Fifty-five horses were offered, and of these nearly 7 forty were sold at good prices. A three-year-old mare offered on behalf of Mr. G. Grantham realised £46 I.os, being bought at that figure by Mr. E. R.. Putt, of Otakeho. The same vendor sold another heavy horse for £43, T. A. Wan, of Opunake, being the buyer, and £4l 10s was secured by the McLac-hlan estate for a fine upstanding half-draught bought by W . Wan, Opunake. Another good price was £37 for a heavy horse offered by Messrs Scott Bros., Waverley, and bought by Mr. W. Lawrence, of Pungarehu Generally, reserves were fairly high, and in most cases they were exceeded. Tt is understood that a scarcity' of horses is experienced at Feilding and that prices generally are high in that district.
