HAWERA POULTRY SOCIETY

ANNUAL MEETING HELD. SUCCESSFUL YEAR REVIEWED. The report given by the president (Mr. G. C. Harding) of the Hawera Poultry Society to the annual meeting of members last night indicated that the year had been very successful and ) the affairs of the society efficiently managed. There was a good attendance of members. Air Harding said there had been a slight increase in membership during the year, but there was room for many more and he hoped to see the number increased. The young bird show, he said, had been quite successful, a large credit not being expected. He had great pleasure in thanking all donors of trophies, cash specials and all others who had in any way assisted to make the year the .success it had undoubtedly been. The year had been difficult, but thanks to a lire body of officials, who had shown the true cooperative spirit, the strong position of the society had been maintained. Air. E*. M. Galvin said that the results reflected great credit on all concerned and only combined work made this possible. He referred to the fact that several trophies had been won outfight, hut had been replaced by the donors. The statement of accounts showed a credit balance of £l2 9s 7d. The principal items of income were donations £6: subscriptions £5 7s 6d and on the young bird show £3 6s ™d. The expenditure included new trophies £8 9s lOd, .social £4 8s lid, wages £2 16s and bonus (secretary) £5. The issets showed a surplus over liabilities ff £4B 13s 9d. Tributes to the good work of the secretary (Air. A. R. AVatson) of the : Hawera Poultry Society we* - e paid., by I Messrs. Harding and Galvin, both emphasising the tact and ability he had displayed in the affairs of the society md the supervision of the shows. j A matter of interest to the weekly ' jolumn in the “Hawera Star” was dealt with as requested. It was resolved to arrange for displaying a trophy received from Wellington.

In regard to a proposal to hold a conference of Poultry Clubs, it was decided to agree to a suggestion from New Plymouth that this be held at Stratford on Monday, October 2 Messrs Harding. NOTE. —Our agent has inspected the above cows, which are young, good conditioned, well consti’tutioned, deepbodied cattle, showing quality and breeding. Last season the herd, which included some 14 heifers) averaged 289 lb. butter-fat per co-w, whilst 32 averaged well over 3001 b. Mr Viokridge has for the past 10 years tested all his cows and has culled heavily ,w.ith the result that <the herd to-day is a first-,claiss one. Last sea:son’s individual record of cows will' be available at sale. We have no hesitation in recommending these cattle to intending purchasers.
