SPORTS AT THE SCHOOL

Prom the early days of the school football was strongly fostered, and many references to it occur in the log books.

.Several football records are noted in the early days, the school team going to Normanby and beating the local team by six points to nil. The boys had responded well to coaching. It is noted in a report that football practice was carried out on Mr Hendv’s paddock in April, 1596-. The team held the country schools Rugby championship for three years—--1908 'to 1911. 'On August 4, 1925, the school won the McLeod Shield for Taranaki primary schools competition. On December 18, 1925, the caps donated by local residents were presented to the members of the Rugby team. In April, 1924, the Okaiawa School cricket team played off with Auroa for the championship of Taranaki, Auroa winning. Okaiawa had won in the south and Auroa the northern division. In December,. 1925, a team of athletes from the school won the Dixon Banner against all schools in South Taranaki and the trophy was presented at the sehoolhouse by Mr E. Dixon.
