• <e ~ HEAVIER PENALTIES URGED Heavier penalties for persons convicted of the theft of motor cais vm e suggested by Mr J. Linklater (L-O-, Man a vatu) in a . question given notice of in. thf of Representatives on Tuesday afternoon. Mr Linklater stated that the theft of motor-cars was increasing throughout New Zealand that scores of piotor-cars had been burned or severely damaged by motor thieves, and that no motor vehicle uas safe in the streets of any town or city in the Dominion. . In view of this state of affairs, M [Linklater asked the Minister of Justice, the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, whether She would,take immediate steps to hare the property of motorists properly Protected bv drastically increasing the punishment prescribed for the offence.
