JEWELLERS’ SHOPS ROBBED
RINGS TAKEN BY CALLER. SUSPECTED MAN ARRESTED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, Sept. 25. Two jewellers shops were .robbed of rings to-day by a man who is believed to be unemployed. An arrest was subsequently made. Askino- to see engagement rings at Tennent’is. he distracted Mr Tennent’s attention, removing one, and saying he would bring his fiancee to see _ a rinor he liked. Mr Tennent then discovered h,is toss and informed the police, but in the meantime the man had gone to Gilbert’s shop in the next block, adopting (similar tactics- and securing a £27 ring from a- woman assistant, who later followed and identified a man in a hotel bar, as also did Mr Tennent. A constable saw the man drop one ring on the floor and the other ring was found behind a barrel.
