WORK OF TOWN BOARD. MONTHLY MEETING HELD. (From Our Own Correspondent). At the monthly meeting of the Manaia Town Board there were present Comissioner L. C. Harrison (chairman), H. Mead, N. D. Jones G R. Watts, L. A. Walker and A. J. ChnsA special meeting of the board was held prior to the ordinary meeting for the purpose of making a levy of rates for the current year. The board recorded a vote of sympathy with the foreman in the- loss of his mother, Mrs Borrie, senior. A deputation consisting of Misses Walker and Gopperth, representing the ladies hockey club, waited on the board to request the use of the domain grounds for a hockey tournament on the first Wednesday in May and also that improvements be made to the grounds. The deputation stated that if the tournament was a success the club would probably make a donation to the domain funds. Permission was granted, and it was also decided to improve the hockey ground with unemployment relief labour if possible. The; foreman’s and treasurer’s reports were adopted, but the pound- 1 keeper’s report was referred back for further particulars. The manager of the bank waited on the board and discussed the overdraft limit. It was decided to r reduce the limit- from £I2OO to £IOOO. A written request to reduce the scale of hawkers’ licenses was not granted. It was resolved that the board’s horse be sold. . . After much discussion it was decided to co-operate with the other local bodies in applying for a special revaluation of the Hawera Hospital Board’s rating area. A snbsidv of £3 3s was voted to the Waimate Plains library. The offers of -Messrs. Duncan and Suter to lease certain municipal sections were accepted. The matter "of repairing the town hall was left to the hall committee. The clerk and foreman were instructed to makeT an inspection of all extraordinary Water supplied.
It was decided to erect a concrete bin in the board’s yard. An arrangement made by Mr J. Kitt to erect a. new fence on a. municipal reserve to replace the old fence that was destroyed by fallen trees, was approved The matter of finalising the matter of letting the confeotionerv stall in thr> town hall was left to the clerk. Mr. G. S. McDonald’s tender to remove and fall certain pine trees in Kaoai Street was accepted. An application from the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union to take over the management of the ladies’ rest room was approved.
KAUPOKONUI DOMAIN BOARD
ANNUAL MEETING THIS WEEK
At Abe annual general meeting of the Kaupokonni Beach ’Domain Board to be held in the Manaia Town Hall on Friday evening the election of officers for the ensuing term wll be held. The present officers have carried On for the last seven: years and have done excellent work in erecting dressing and shelter sheds and conveniences and also a couple of small shacks which the board rents to occupiers during the season. The beach is considered bv all visitors to be one of the most attractive in Taranaki. Excellent camping grounds and an ideal location for picnics are provided bv the resort. The board would like to see a large attendance cf the public present at the annual meeting.
