JAPANESE TRAINING SHIP

VISIT TO AUCKLAND MERCHANT MARINE CADETS (By Telegraph. -Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 26. The Japanese Government training ship, Shintoku Mam, arrived to-day after a voyage of 6036 miles from San Diego, California. She carries 70 cadets in training for the merchant marine. She will stay a week and then sail for Kobe. The vessel l is a four-masted barque with auxiliary steam engines and, under full sail, spreads 27,907 square feet of canvais and can log 13 knots without the engines. Most cf the cadets know some English and bad heard of Now Zealand’s scenery, climate and football. One politely inquired 1 if the All Blacks were playing at Auckland to-day.
