HAWERA-BRED CLYDESDALE

PURCHASED FOR AUSTRALIA. COMPETING AT ADELAIDE ROYAL show. A Clydesdale colt of rare quality and conformation, sold to the Govern- 1 meat of South Australia, has just: been shipped to Adelaide. The colt in question, no-tv two and a half years old, was bred by the Moore Hunter j Estate, Hawera, and was registered in the New Zealand Olydesdaie Stud Look under the name of Cyrus. Cyrus j has been sent forward to compete at I die lloyal Adelaide Show early next 1 month, and is expected to uphold I worthily the reputation established by | his near relative the tour-vear-old, horse Oanmore, who won tlio championship for the same breeders at the' last fcvdnev Royal Show and then sold for 525 guineas. Cyrus was sold, for the great price for a colt of his age of 475 guineas. 1 Following on the show. Cyrus is to j become stud horse at the. famous | Roseworthy Agricultural College m , South Australia. Like the Royal champion colts of both the New Zea-| land and Sydney Royal Shows of thei present, season, Cyrus is bred on dj® popular Bonnie Dene—Buchlyvie s Favourite cross, but in addition he is one of the most intensely bred colts of his class yet produced in the Dominion. He is not onlv sired b che great breeding horse Bonnie Dene, but he is also out of a daughter oi* the same sire in the champion man? Frills, winner of the Union Steam Ship Company’s Cup. Frills is from another noted prie-winning mare in Lingerie, by Buehlyvie’s Favourite (imp.), while her granddam is Hie imported prize-winning mare Hmemoa, which founded one of the most notable lines of Clydesdales of the best type in the Dominion Cyrus, who is' a rare type of Clydesdale colt, with bone, feet and ankles ot the highest class, a grand outlook, ample | weight and substance for hi-s age, and is a close moving, active horse, has every credential for an outstanding success at the stud. Breeding such as his is not often attempted, but in this case Mr Alex. Hunter has, met with outstanding success.
