TAWHITI CROSSING
VISIBILITY OBSTRUCTED MOTORISTS’ CRITICISM At last evening’s meeting of the South Taranaki Automobile Association at Hawera reference was made to the Tawhiti railway crossing and the obstruction caused to the visibility through the erection of a high iron fence. Attention to this was called by the service officer (Mr J. McKee) in his monthly report. Mr W. O. Williams said the fence made the crossing a “regular death trap.” He added that the Mayor had told him the Borough Council could do nothing to prevents its erection. Mr Fitzgerald said the county was concerned, because it was the outlet . to the district behind Nolantown.' lb was resolved to ask the co-opera-/ tion of the Borough and County (JojlsU cils, the Chamber of Commerqg^ and the Railway Department in tide matter, with a view to see if Something could be done to obviat<T a. serious danger. i The Highways Board, ?said a member, had wide powers, but the only means to overcome the trouble might be to’get the Railway Department to erect a safetv device.
