“WHERE 19 THIS LADY.”
Britain’s musical comedy “Where is This Lady” showed to a largo audience at the Grand Theatre, Hawera, last evening. It is a modern story of Vienna produced oil the same lilies as “Sunshine Susie.” The music is by Franz Leliar, famous composer of “The Merry Widow.” The beautiful new star Marta Eggert makes her first appearance on the screen in this, film and gives a captivating performance. The supporting players are Owen Nares and George Iv. Arthur. Ou the same programme is an excellent featurette “Nothing Under 70 Club,” starring noted Australian artists, each one doing a novelty number and every one of the actors being over 70. This programme will close at the Grand Theatre to-night. “THREE LIVE*GHOSTS.” The appealing dramatic farce “Three Live Ghosts” will ho presented at the Grand Theatre to-morrow' and on Monday evenings. This comedy classic, starring Joan Bennett, Robert Montgomery, Claude Allister and Beryl Mercer, has rocked the theatres of the world with laughter. It presents a lovable Cockney story of adventures in the city of London, and is. regarded as one of the most entertaining pictures to come to the screen since the event of the talkies. Thrills .below the surface, on the sea and in the air combine to create a sensational background for a stirring romance in “Hell Below,” Metro-Gold-wyn-Mayor’s amazing drama of submarinesl, showing at the Hawera Oipera House to-morrow afternoon and night and on Monday night, with Robert Montgomery, Walter Huston, Madge Evans, Jimmy Durante, Eugene Pallette and Robert Young as the principals in a maelstrom of adventure and excitement. The picture depicts the most remarkable underwater shots of submarines in action yet seen on the screen. Against this authentic background is played the romance of Montgomery, as the young lieutenant in love with Madge Evans, the daughter of his commander. Their attempt to defy conventions and traditions only to find in the end that there is only one satisfactory solution to a conflict between love and duty provides the main thread of the narrative. The girl’s loyalty to a husband crippled in an airplane fall and Montgomery’s final heroic gesture to redeem his self-respect are the human incidents woven into a. vivid heartinterest story.
