FIRE IN FLOUR MILL
BRIGADE PREVENTS SPREAD
DAMAGE TO MACHINERY. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 23. Considerable damage was done by (ire to-night in the oatmeal department of the Northern Roller Company’s mill in Fort Street. Fortunately, the brigade was able to confine the outbreak to the top floor, where it originated, but a large quantity of water penetrated two floors below. The building is a three-storeved brick structure with timber, floors and iron roof. The fire was discovered among machinery on the top floor. When the brigade arrived the flames had a strong - hold. Firemen had a difficult task in the smoke and darkness, but eventually controlled the fire after the roof _ had been partially destroyed. The damage to the milling machinery, which was made very largely of wood, could not be estimated to-night. Insurances on the oatmeal building and contents are: Building £3OOO, machinery £11,0.10, merchandise £2CO.
