AMERICAN RECOVERY ACT
ULTIMATE BENEFIT DOUBLED. ENGLISH PROFESSOR’S VIEW. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) BANFF. Aug. 22. Professor Gregory, University of London, discussing the United States National Recovery Act at the conference of the Institute of Pacific Relations, said the attempt to increase wages and shorten hours might be •. uccessful if it were confined to one industry at a time, but if every industry did the same thing the net result would mean no change lifid been effected. He contended the success of the scheme would narrow the margin of nrofit in industries. If it did not it would be of no advantage to the consumer. Therefore the purchasing dower would not be increased. In his opinion the Act would play no part in the long run in the United States’ recovery.
